Pressure to buy train tickets online is less in eastern region

On the occasion of the holy Eid-ul-Azha, the tickets for 15th June was given on the fourth day of advance railway ticket sales. On Wednesday (June 5) from 8 am to 4:30 pm, more than 29,000 tickets were sold from Dhaka in eight and a half hours. And more than 54 thousand tickets have been sold across the country. On this day, the pressure to get tickets for the western region has reduced. Whereas, the pressure for the tickets towards Eastern Region has increased.

According to a responsible source of Sohoz-Synesis-Vincen JV, a subsidiary company of Bangladesh Railways ticket sales, it has been informed that, from the start of ticket sales at 8 am to 4:30 pm, 54 thousand 234 tickets have been sold out of a total of 1 lakh 59 thousand 475 tickets of intercity trains across the country.

Meanwhile, 29 thousand 234 tickets have been sold out of 31 thousand 393 tickets from Dhaka alone to various destinations in the country.

Sources also said that, ticket-seekers hit the website 17 million times between 8 am and 8:30 am on Wednesday for western train tickets. On the other hand, they hit the website 9.8 million times between 2 pm and 2.30 pm for Eastern train tickets.

However, the pressure to get tickets for the western region eased on Wednesday. Passengers in the region hit the server for 18 million times on Tuesday.

Railway officials said that demand for tickets for Dhaka-Panchagarh route Ekota Express, Drutojan and Panchagarh Express as well as Kurigram Express, Rangpur Express, Chilahati and Nilsagar Express was high on Wednesday.

Tickets for the four intercity trains running from Dhaka to Rajshahi — Padma, Silk City, Banalta and Rajshahi Express — have been sold out. Tickets for three inter-city trains in Jashore and Khulna region — Benapole, Sundarban and Chitra Express — also have been sold out on Wednesday in the morning.

the fourth day, 15,811 tickets were allocated for Eastern Region. 9.8 million hits were made from all over the country to get these tickets. 18 million hits were made on Tuesday to get tickets for the eastern zone.

Most of the non-stop Sonar Bangla and Suvarna Express tickets on the Dhaka-Chittagong route on Wednesday were sold out within an hour of commencement. Besides Mahanagar Express, Mahanagar Prabhati and Chattala Express, several tickets of Sylhet route Jayantika, Parabat, Kalni, Upaban Express remained unsold in the afternoon.

However, it is known that the demand for tickets of Kishoreganj, Mymensingh, Jamalpur route Jamuna, Agnibeena, Haor Express, Kishoreganj Express was high.

Eid-ul-Azha is a public holiday on June 16-18. Before this, Friday and Saturday, June 14 and 15. On Thursday, June 13, people will rush home from work. In all, this Eid holiday will be at least five days.

Advance train tickets will be available till June 6. Tickets for June 16 will be available on June 6. Besides, 25 percent seats of non-AC coaches will be available from the starting station before the start of the journey on the request of common passengers.

OTP code has been activated to prevent ticket black market. A passenger can purchase a maximum of four tickets online. Eid advance and return tickets are non-refundable.

366 trains including inter-city and mail trains operate from Dhaka. The weekly closure of these trains will be withdrawn from June 12 till the day before Eid.
